SYMPOSIUM

The Archi / Tree / tecture Pavilion

Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Derelitti, Ospedaletto Complex, Barbaria delle Tole, Castello 6691, Venice

At the heart of the Lithuanian Pavilion “Archi / Tree / Tecture”, the Symposium stands as an important moment of reflection and exchange. It extends the Pavilion’s ideas into a week-long program that invites exploring sensitive to nature architectural visions.

This satellite event gathers students from various Lithuanian and European universities, bringing together diverse perspectives on the future of architecture and urban natures. Taking place from 22 to 28 September 2025, the Symposium adopts a transdisciplinary approach, highlighting student works while fostering exchange and collaboration.

Throughout the week, student projects will be presented around three central themes: Trees as Architecture Allies, From Smart Cities to Living Ecosystems, Cosmologies of More-Than-Human Cohabitation. These presentations will be complemented by keynote lectures, workshops, discussions, and networking sessions, creating a vibrant platform for dialogue.

The Symposium aims to deepen the exploration of urban-ecological futures and spark collaborations that may continue beyond the Biennale.

At the heart of the Symposium is LABT (Laboratory for [Living] Tree [as] Architecture) - a transdisciplinary student laboratory connecting Transform4Europe alliance universities, other 16+ European institutions, ~80 students, and the Lithuanian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale to address the climate crisis.

The laboratory lasted almost a year, with two culminations: 1) a creathon during the T4EU Mobility Week in Saint-Étienne from May 19 to 23, 2) and a symposium at the Lithuanian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. Through its transdisciplinary approach LABT provided intellectual and methodological core for the symposium.
